Vol. 179 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Landing Facilities at Dursey Island.

23.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate the present position regarding the proposed improvement of landing facilities on Dursey Island and at Dursey Sound, and the probable date when the work will be undertaken.

An offer of a State grant of £3,750 is about to issue to the Cork County Council towards the cost estimated at £5,000 of providing landing facilities on Dursey Island at The Bawn or Foilmuck and of improving the existing landing place on the mainland at a point opposite The Bawn. The offer will be conditional on the agreement of the Council (1) to acquire the Site at The Bawn and provide a right-of-way thereto, (2) to contribute the balance of £1,250, of the cost of the proposed landing facilities and (3) to accept responsibility for the future maintenance of the completed works, including the right-of-way.

The facilities proposed for both the island and the mainland include the provision of a hand operated derrick.

It is not possible at this stage to give the date when the work will be undertaken.

I take it from the reply that no undue delay will take place and that the work will proceed as quickly as possible if the county council agree?

Provided we get the necessary co-operation from Cork County Council and that the other matters involved can be smoothed out, there is no reason why the work should not commence.
