Vol. 179 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification for Donegal Islands.

43.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if it is proposed to extend rural electrification to Owey Island and Cruit Lower island, County Donegal; and, if it is so, when.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the Islands of Owey and Lower Cruit are included in the Rosses Rural Area to which supply was extended under the Rural Electrification Scheme in 1955. During the development of the Rosses Area the householders on these Islands were given an opportunity of taking supply but they declined to accept supply on the terms offered. Under a the post development scheme the householders on these Islands were given a further opportunity during the past year of accepting Supply but the terms quoted were not accepted.

I am also informed by the Electricity Supply Board that until recently only one householder on Lower Cruit was interested in taking supply but two others have now expressed interest and terms for supply to all three will be quoted shortly.
