Vol. 180 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Obscene Printed Matter.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has seen reports to the effect that obscene literature purporting to come here from America is on sale in Belfast; and, if so, if he will take steps to ensure that such literature is not permitted to enter this part of Ireland.

I have seen reports in the Dublin newspapers relating to the circulation of objectionable American publications in the Six Counties but have not seen it suggested nor is it correct that importation is effected through this State.

As to the second part of the Question, the importation of any obscene printed matter is prohibited under the customs laws and I am satisfied that the prohibition is strictly enforced by Customs personnel.
