Vol. 182 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extra Grant for Special Road Works.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the allocation for the extra grant for special road works will be made and the basis of allocation (a) to each local authority, excluding county boroughs, and (b) to each county borough.

Road authorities were notified on 28th instant of allocations of additional and new grants for the current financial year. Additional grants are to county councils and represent increases in the main and county road improvement grants at the rate of 1/12th approximately of the grants already notified. The two new types of grant which have been introduced, comprise an upkeep grant for the county boroughs and Dún Laoghaire on the basis of recoupment of 40% of approved expenditure on main road upkeep in these areas, and a grant for the improvement of urban roads, based on the mileage of such roads in each case.
