Vol. 185 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Factories Established with Aid of Foreign Capital.

30.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of the ninety-nine factories established with the aid of foreign capital and technicians the number of such projects which first came to official notice in each of the five financial years ended 31st March, 1960.

Of the 99 factories concerned, eighty came to official notice in the five financial years ended 31st March, 1960 as follows: 1955/6, 21; 1956/7, 18; 1957/8, 21; 1958/9, 13; 1959/60, 7. Total: 80.

In other words, they were all started before you. That is what it comes to.

The question relates to industries which are actually in production——

——for which the Minister took credit.

A considerable number of industries have come to notice since the Deputy left office and production is about to commence——

The Minister should not claim credit for something he did not start.

I do not. Deputy Rooney's question referred to a speech not by me but by Dr. Beddy of the Industrial Development Authority who was reviewing progress over a certain period.

And of course the Minister disclaimed all responsibility.
