Vol. 186 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Re-arrangement Scheme in South Mayo.

23.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to go ahead with the re-arrangement and division of the Curraboy, (Kilmaine) and Cahercroobeen lands, County Mayo, in their possession; and if he will state the total acreage of lands in the locality which will be involved in the scheme.

Having regard to the incidence of congestion and intermixed holdings in this district, the area, viz. 25 acres, which the Land Commission already have in their possession, is not considered sufficient to enable satisfactory rearrangement proposals to be formulated. To illustrate the difficulty in securing additional land, I may mention that the 25 acres on hands represent the results of 6 migration and resumption transactions.

Efforts to secure some further land in the locality are continuing and I cannot therefore now indicate the acreage that may be involved in a scheme.

Would the Minister say if the Land Commission have proceedings for a pretty large farm in the immediate locality?

That is a separate question.

Or have they acquired it?

There are negotiations for more than one farm in the area. I am satisfied extra land is required before any decent job can be done in this area.
