The total number of persons effectively insured under the Social Welfare Acts at the 31st March, 1960, the latest date for which figures are available, is estimated to be 711,000. These figures are based on the number of cards surrendered by men insured during 1959 and by women insured during 1959/60.
It might be borne in mind that due to the several rounds of pay increases in recent years many persons have gone and are going outside the insurable limit for non-manual employment, despite the increase in that limit to £800 per annum.
