Vol. 186 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Project: North Kerry Scheme.

26.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware of the grave dissatisfaction felt by landowners in North Kerry at the present method of operating the Land Project Scheme, resulting in some cases in delays of up to 2½ years; and whether he will effect an improvement in the working of the scheme.

I am aware that there are some considerable arrears under the Land Project in North Kerry due mainly to the exceptionally large number of applications and notwithstanding that schemes were approved for 4,500 acres in 1960 as compared with 4,000 acres in 1959 and 3,500 acres in 1958. In order to expedite the work, I have recently arranged for the area to be subdivided and for an additional District Officer, who has taken up duty, to be allotted to the area. I also expect improvement in North Kerry to result from general reorganisational measures which I have initiated.
