Vol. 186 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Congo Troops: Clean Water Supply.

51.

asked the Minister for Defence what supply of clean water per man per day is considered appropriate for the troops serving in the Congo; whether this has been available; and, if not, why; and whether the units of Irish troops have as much water equipment and storage capacity as units of similar size of other countries.

The quantity of clean water considered appropriate for troops serving in the Congo is five gallons per man per day for all purposes. This quantity has generally been available but in accordance with normal operational practices water supplies to troops on extended patrol duty are rationed.

The Irish troops have as much water equipment and storage capacity as units of similar size of other countries.
