Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Architectural Stone: Home-Quarried and Imported.

6.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state for each year from 1950 to the latest available date, and under appropriate headings, the quantity and value of architectural stone quarried in the State.

The only particulars available concerning the amount of stone quarried for architectural purposes are those obtained in the Annual Census of Industrial Production, which covers establishments with three or more persons engaged. I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing for each of the years 1950-1958 inclusive, the aggregate net selling value returned by the establishments covered by the Census, under the headings architectural and monumental granite, marble blocks and slabs and limestone for building. Corresponding figures for 1959 and 1960 are not yet available. Separate particulars under each heading cannot be given without disclosing information relating to individual establishments. Quantity data are not available.

Following is the statement:

asked the Taoiseach what quantities of architectural stone have been imported for each year from 1950 to the latest available date, giving the types of stone and the cost.

Imports are brought to account according to the headings of the Official Import List and the items relevant to the Deputy's question would appear to be:

Building and Monumental Stone, unworked.

Builders' and Monumental Stone, worked.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the quantity and value of such imports for each year since 1952. Corresponding data for 1950-51 are not available.
