Vol. 187 No. 1

Vote 27—Circuit Court.

I move:—

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £2,065 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1961, for the Salaries, Allowances and Expenses of Circuit Court Officers, Temporary Additional Circuit Judges and Sheriffs; the Travelling Expenses of Circuit Judges; and the Expenses of Revision of Voters and Jurors Lists (No. 27 of 1926, etc.).

The Supplementary Estimate is required to meet the extra expenditure arising from increases in the salaries payable to county registrars, from the upward revision of certain rates of subsistence allowance and of certain motor-car mileage rates, which have been granted during the year.

I notice in the heading there is a reference to temporary additional circuit judges. I do not know whether that is taken from the heading of the original Estimate or not. It is not contemplated to appoint an additional circuit court judge between now and the 31st March?

No, it is the Long Title in the original Estimate.

I should be glad if the Minister would say whether the Department is satisfied with the workings of the rearranged circuits. It may perhaps be too early to say.

They are working satisfactorily. We have had no complaints of any description.

Vote put and agreed to.
