Vol. 188 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding from Intermediate Rivers or Catchment Areas.

11.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has any proposals to deal with the problem of floodings from intermediate rivers or catchment areas.

As I indicated in debate on the 22nd March, 1960, it has been decided to extend operations under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, to take in what have been called "intermediate rivers", that is, small catchments with independent outfalls. Engineering surveys have been made in several areas and a few schemes are in advanced stage of preparation. It is hoped to have works commenced in some areas later this year.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary tell us what catchments these recent surveys were made in?

There is a list of catchments and included in it are the Brickey in Waterford and Ouvane in Cork.

When will they start on the Brickey? Will it be in ten years' time?

What about the Black-water?
