Vol. 188 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Finmore Hill (Donegal) Turbary.

30.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that, although the turf season is now advanced, the turbary at Finmore Hill, County Donegal, has not yet been allocated amongst the tenants; and, if so, if he will take immediate steps to have the matter attended to.

The Land Commission are investigating the possibility of developing virgin bog at Finmore Hill in the townlands of Tullygallon and Oughtnadrin Barr but, pending completion of their enquiries, it is not possible to indicate what the outcome will be.

Is the Minister aware he has given me the same answer on two previous occasions in the past 12 months? Surely it is time the Land Commission were in a position to allocate this turbary.

The first and only representations were received from the Deputy on this matter last August on behalf of one person.

In this House.

Those are the only representations we have received in the matter. The question of the title to this turbary has to be investigated and also the question of local demand. The only representations we have received were on behalf of this individual friend of the Deputy.

Does the Minister state that only one applicant is seeking turbary at Finmore Bog?

I have received representations on behalf of only one person.

It took the Minister a long time to make an investigation in respect of the application of one person.
