Vol. 188 No. 5

Written Answers. - Contracts for Uniforms.

38.

andMr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the present position with regard to contracts for Post Office uniforms, and clothing contracts generally for the Department of Defence and the Gardaí, the anticipated number to be placed in the current financial year and details of such contracts; and what contracts have been awarded to the Limerick Clothing Factory in the last financial year and in the current year.

The present position regarding contracts for uniform clothing placed by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs is that part of the requirements of the Post Office, Defence Forces and Garda Síochána for the current financial year has already been ordered. Tenders have been invited for the bulk of the remaining Garda Síochána requirements and it is expected that the contracts will be placed shortly. Tenders for the remaining Department of Defence requirements will be invited as soon as details of the requirements are available and the balance of the Post Office requirements will be ordered later in the year.

In the financial year 1960-61, Limerick Clothing Factory, Ltd., were awarded contracts by my Department for the supply of 21,000 garments. In the current financial year to date they have secured contracts in respect of 432 garments.
