Vol. 189 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rediscounting Operations of Central Bank.

1.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance when he expects that the Central Bank will publish the Report referred to by him in a reply of 10th May, 1961.

2.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Finance why it would have been inconvenient for the Central Bank to furnish to the Dáil on 10th May, 1961, information concerning the total value of Exchequer Bills and Bills of Exchange rediscounted by the Central Bank on behalf of the associated banks for the year ended 31st March, 1961, when that information must have been at the disposal of the Bank since 31st March, 1961.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 1 and 2 together.

The rediscounting of bills by the Central Bank is not a matter for which I have any responsibility. It is a discretionary function of the Bank and accordingly information relative to it is appropriate for publication by the Bank.

The report of the Bank for the year ended 31st March, 1961, is expected to be available by the end of next month.
