Vol. 190 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Coast Erosion.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has considered representations made in connection with the problems of coast erosion at (1) Ballyheigue, (2) Maharees, Castlegregory, and (3) a number of other seaside areas in County Kerry; and if he is in a position to offer any special financial assistance with a view to enabling early remedial action to be taken in such cases.

23.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware of the continuing damage to property and land which is being caused by coastal erosion in County Kerry; if he will state the results of his consideration of the matter to date; and what action it is proposed to take to deal with this serious problem.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take Questions 22 and 23 together. Representations have been received in relation to coast erosion at a number of places in County Kerry, including those mentioned by the Deputy. The introduction of legislation regarding the general question of coast protection works is being considered.
