Vol. 190 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Laois Housing Requirements.

44.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the great housing shortage in the parish of Doonane, near Carlow, County Laois; and if he will arrange for an immediate survey of the housing requirements of the parish without delay so that permission will be granted to house all those who cannot obtain accommodation at present.

I am not so aware. Responsibility for the initiation of proposals to meet the housing needs of a particular area rests with the housing authority who will, I understand, have regard to any need arising in Doonane when formulating their next rural cottage scheme.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the great shortage of houses in Portarlington, County Laois; and when it is proposed to erect a suitable scheme to meet local demands.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply of the 26th October last to a similar question put down by him.
