Vol. 190 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois-Offaly Forestry Lands.

53.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will indicate the areas in Laois-Offaly where land has been acquired by the Forestry Division of his Department and where work has not yet commenced.

The total productive area held at the nine State Forests in Laois and Offaly is 22,684 acres, of which a total of 20,713 acres has been planted to date. So far it has been arranged that additional areas totalling 919 acres will be planted at these centres in the 1961/62 season and there is a possibility that other areas may be added to the programme later. The balance of the unplanted lands will be held in reserve for planting in future years in accordance with normal forestry practice. In view of the large number of areas involved, it would be impracticable to give details of the individual areas at which work is unlikely to start in the current year.
