Vol. 191 No. 5

Medical Practitioners Bill, 1961—First Stage.

I move: That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend the provisions of the Medical Practitioners Act, 1951, relating to the experience required for full registration in the Register of Medical Practitioners for Ireland.

I want to raise a question which would arise possibly on the Order of Business rather than on the First Stage. Is it seriously proposed to introduce substantial legislation for the first time on 12th July with the programme of legislation that is already on the Order Paper?

What legislation is the Deputy referring to?

The Medical Practitioners Bill.

This could not be described as substantial legislation. It makes a very minor change in the provisions relating to registration of medical practitioners.

When is it proposed to circulate it?

Immediately.

Anything the Tánaiste introduces could cause a flare-up.

This could not possibly cause a flare-up.

Anything he introduces could cause a flare-up.

I am not responsible for the fact that you are such inflammable material.

You have got a good many wars on your hands anyway.

Question put and agreed to.

Next Tuesday.

Next Tuesday we shall be doing Estimates.

Second Stage ordered for Tuesday, 18th July, 1961.
