Vol. 191 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Powerscourt House and Estate.

4.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Taoiseach whether the Government have been approached by a new company to take over the operation of the Powerscourt House and Estate; and, if so, what is the specific or general nature of any proposals so made.

There has been no such approach to the Government.

Was there not an approach to Bord Fáilte? There was a report that there was an approach to Bord Fáilte.

I was asked if there was an approach to the Government. There has been no approach to the Government.

May we take it that the Government will interest themselves in protecting the rights of the public in this estate?

The Government are always interested in protecting the rights of the public.

The public would like to be reassured that the Government's protection will be shown in a practical way.

May I ask the Taoiseach, if any grant is made by the Government or by Bord Fáilte, if contingent on that grant being made he will make provision that the persons at present enjoying the Powerscourt Estate, such as guides, scouts and the general public, will continue to enjoy these facilities if public money is spent on this project at all?

I do not know about any application to the Government.
