asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has power under the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1934, to require agricultural employers to keep records of accidents and to notify accidents; and if in view of the large number of farm accidents, especially tractor and machinery accidents, he will ensure that agricultural employers notify accidents to the appropriate Department so that agricultural accidents may be assessed and to enable statistics on them to be compiled for the purposes of farm safety legislation.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative.
It is my intention to examine all aspects of the existing Workmen's Compensation Scheme, including the question of statistics in respect of accidents in industry and agriculture, when the recommendations of the Commission on Workmen's Compensation are available.
Meanwhile I do not propose to impose an obligation of the kind suggested on employers of agricultural labour.
