Vol. 191 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballinspittle (Cork) River Obstructions.

18.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, in co-operation with the local committee of affected landowners, provision will be made by the Special Employment Schemes Office or the Board of Works for the clearing of fallen trees and collapsing banks which impede the flow of the Ballinspittle River so that many acres of rush-growing land may be brought back to productivity.

The reconditioning of 800 perches of the Ballinspittle River from Garrettstown strand bridge by Ballinspittle bridge to the junction of the streams near Daniel Nyhan's house, Ballycatteen was the subject of a grant under the Rural Improvements Scheme thirteen years ago. The work was completed in June, 1948.

If the beneficiaries desire to submit a fresh application under that scheme for further work, the matter will receive sympathetic consideration.

Under the Local Authorities (Works) Act?

No, the rural improvement scheme.
