Vol. 191 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maintenance of Kildare Place (Dublin) Plot.

19.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has any responsibility for the maintenance of the green plot adjacent to Leinster House in Kildare Place.

The plot in question is State property and is in the charge of the Commissioners of Public Works for maintenance.

Is it by accident or design that the weeds have been cut in that plot since this Question was sent in last Thursday, and is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the Legislature gave a lead in that respect when it passed laws for the elimination of noxious weeds? Would the Parliamentary Secretary extend his jurisdiction and have removed also the unsightly, rusting barbed wire——

Surely that is not a question.

The old barbed wire is inside those rusty railings. He has got rid of the weeds. Let him now get rid of the barbed wire.

The plot was tidied in February, in April, in June and again in July. It is a rough plot which cannot be done by lawnmower. The weeds have to be cut by a scythe. It will eventually be walled off to hide it from the public street.
