Vol. 191 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Córas Iompair Éireann: Redundant Employees.

32.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total number of persons in all grades declared redundant by Córas Iompair Éireann and recalled to employment with the company since March, 1957; the longest duration of such temporary re-employment for any such person; and the grades in which such redundancy was disclosed and in which re-employment has taken place.

I am informed by C.I.E. that the total number of persons whose services have been dispensed with since March, 1957, in circumstances entitling them to redundancy compensation and who have been temporarily re-employed by the Board at some time since then is 40. The longest duration of such re-employment is that of a man re-employed on 4th August, 1959, and still in employment.

The grades in which such redundancy was disclosed are:—clerical officer, painter, bodymaker, sheet metal worker, coremaker, labourer, deckman (canal), engineman (canal), master (canal). Of the 40 persons concerned 28 were re-employed in their own grades and 12 in other grades as follows:—plate-layer, road freight driver (casual), bus conductor, labourer, porter, fitter's helper, oiler, steam raiser, painter, road freight helper.

During the duration of such temporary re-employment redundancy compensation ceases.
