Vol. 191 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Vocational Schools.

63.

asked the Minister for Education whether the site for the proposed new vocational school at Foxford, County Mayo, has been approved of by his Department.

The County Mayo Vocational Education Committee has not yet requested my sanction for the purchase of a site for the proposed new vocational school at Foxford. I understand that the Committee is considering the suitability of certain available sites.

64.

asked the Minister for Education the position concerning the erection of a new vocational school at Geesala, County Mayo.

The County Mayo Vocational Education Committee was authorised some two months ago to seek tenders for the erection of the proposed school. I understand that advertisements inviting tenders will be published by the Committee when the Bill of Quantities is completed.

65.

asked the Minister for Education if he has approved of plans for the extension of Crossmolina vocational school; and, if so, when tenders for this work will be advertised for.

Sketch plans for the proposed extension to the vocational school at Crossmolina have been submitted to my Department, but the County Mayo Vocational Education Committee have asked for authority to have amended plans prepared to include the provision of an additional classroom, and I have agreed to this.

I cannot say, therefore, when the Committee will be in a position to invite tenders for the building of the extension.

66.

asked the Minister for Education if he has approved of the erection of a vocational school at Charlestown, County Mayo; and, if so, when the erection of it will start.

I have approved, in principle, of the proposal of the County Mayo Vocational Education Committee to provide a vocational school at Charlestown. Plans have not yet been submitted by the Committee and I am not in a position, therefore, to say when the building of the school is likely to commence.
