Vol. 191 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Raharoon (Cork) School Inquiry.

68.

asked the Minister for Education if he is prepared to pay the legal costs incurred by Mr. M. Hurley of Bandon in providing legal representation at the formal inquiry held at Raharoon national school; and, if not, if he considers it just and proper that a parent should bear such costs in relation to a private inquiry held by his Department into very serious and justifiable complaints made by parents about the behaviour of a teacher.

No allegations in relation to the Hurley children fell to be considered by the recent inquiry as these children had not been attending the class of the teacher concerned during the period to which the inquiry related.

In any case, these administrative inquiries are non-statutory and there can be no question of legal expenses incurred in connection with them being borne by my Department.

69.

asked the Minister for Education if a decision in the Raharoon inquiry has yet been reached; and, if not, if it is his intention to make his decision public in due course.

The answer to the first part of this question is "No". In relation to the second part, I would refer the Deputy to the reply given by me to a similar question from him on the 4th May last.
