Vol. 192 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Navigation Beacon.

74.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will ensure that the navigation beacon on Carrig A'Tyne, off Eighter Island, Burtonport, County Donegal, will be raised sufficiently high to be visible above Torc Rock and, therefore, be of navigational value to vessels entering Arran Roads from the West Bay, south of Innis Keeragh Island.

The beacon being provided on Carrig A'Tyne is part of a system of navigation marks for the approach to Burtonport Harbour from the North Sound of Arran. I am advised that the raising of this beacon would not by itself provide a safe navigational aid to identify Torc Rock for vessels entering Arran Roads from the West Bay, South of Innis Keeragh Island.
