I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a list of bacon-curing premises licensed by my Department and of premises registered or licensed by my Department for the export of meat from cattle, sheep or pigs, giving the information available to me regarding the date of establishment of each premises.
According to the latest published results of the official Quarterly Industrial Production Inquiry the number of persons employed at mid-March last by bacon factories was 3,945 and by premises engaged in the slaughtering, etc., of meat, other than by bacon factories, was 2,321.
The estimated quantity of bacon produced at licensed bacon factories in 1960 was 1,140,716 cwts. Information regarding production of other meat at the licensed or registered premises is available in the form only of numbers of animals slaughtered, the slaughterings in 1960 being:—
