Vol. 192 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Tipperary-West Waterford Forestry Land.

127.

asked the Minister for Lands what amount of land his Department have at present under consideration for acquisition as forestry land in South Tipperary and West Waterford; and if he will indicate in what areas this land lies.

There are at present 231 areas totalling 14,848 acres on offer to my Department for afforestation purposes in South Tipperary and West Waterford. Agreement to purchase has been reached in the case of 43 of those areas totalling 2,252 acres and title is in course of clearance; negotiations to purchase are in progress with the owners of another 75 areas totalling 1,909 acres. The remaining cases are at the preliminary stages of investigation.

In view of the large number of cases involved it would not be practicable to give details of location.

Would the Minister give me the names of some of the more important areas?

I am afraid that I cannot help the Deputy at the moment. The Deputy will appreciate that there is a tremendous area involved here.

At a later stage, perhaps?

I will ask my Department to give any information they can to the Deputy.
