Vol. 192 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Berry Lobsters.

134.

Mr. O'Donnell

asked the Minister for Lands if in view of the ever-diminishing supply of lobsters around the Irish coast he will immediately ban the capture, possession and sale of berry lobsters.

I do not accept the implication in the Question. I am advised that the conservation of lobster stocks can best be achieved by observance of an adequate minimum size limit. I would appeal to fishermen to return to the sea any lobsters caught below the prescribed limit which at present is an overall length of nine inches.
