Juvenile offenders committed to Limerick Prison, whose cases are not the subject of appeals, are transferred to St. Patrick's Institution if having regard to their histories, they are considered suitable for detention in the Institution.
Of the seven prisoners under 21 years of age in Limerick Prison at present, two are awaiting the hearing of appeals against their sentences; the remaining five, who are serving sentences ranging from one to five months, have all been previously charged with criminal offences.
So far as is possible these prisoners are kept apart from adult prisoners.
