Vol. 192 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Agencies: Governmental Control.

57.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his Department operates any system of licensing of employment agencies claiming to find work for Irish citizens both in Ireland and abroad; and what form of Governmental control is exercised over such agencies.

58.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his Department operates any system of inspection of employment agencies claiming to find work for Irish citizens both in Ireland and abroad ; and, if so, whether he will outline the workings of such system of inspection.

59.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether there is any statutory limit to the charges which may be made by employment agencies to workers for obtaining employment for workers; and whether it is permissible for such an agency to deduct a percentage from the worker's wages.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions 57, 58 and 59 together.

I have no statutory functions in relation to the licensing or inspection of employment agencies or the fees which they may charge. I am not in a position to express an opinion on the point raised in the last part of Question 59 but if there were any specific complaints, I would be prepared to have them investigated.
