Vol. 192 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amendment of Broadcasting Authority Act, 1960.

48.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will introduce legislation to amend section 8 of the Broadcasting Authority Act, 1960 so as to ensure that members of the Authority will not have financial interest in any concern which is engaged in making contracts and financial arrangements with the Authority.

The wording of Section 8 of the Broadcasting Authority Act, 1960, is similar to that of sections in a number of other Acts concerning semi-state bodies and was adopted following very full debates in the Dáil and Seanad. I have no reason whatever to think that the section has proved to be defective in any way and I do not therefore propose to introduce legislation to amend it.

Would the Minister tell the House whether or not arrangements have been made to hire a temporary television studio in Abbey Street from Lorcan Burke Enterprises and whether or not an option has been taken on the Four Provinces Ballroom as a rehearsal hall? Could the Minister assure the House that Lorcan Burke Enterprises have no connection with any member of the Television Authority?

I think that arises on the next Question.
