Vol. 192 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Crumlin Telephone Facilities.

52.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason for the delay in servicing applicants in the North Crumlin area, Dublin, who have applied for a telephone; if he will state the number of applicants at the latest available date; and when the position is likely to be remedied.

Provision of new exchange lines in the North Crumlin area has had to be deferred pending the opening of a new exchange at Walkinstown and the laying of additional underground cables. There are 138 applicants waiting for telephones in the area of whom 116 will be given service within the next few months. The remaining 22 applicants are in the portion of the North Crumlin district which is proper to be served from Ship Street exchange. They will be given service when a major underground cabling scheme has been completed in about six months' time.
