Vol. 192 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pension for Widow of Deceased Soldier.

61.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Defence why a pension under the Army Pensions Acts was not given to a person (name supplied) in respect of the death of her husband, in view of the medical evidence supporting the application of that person; and if he will have the application reconsidered.

No award was granted under the Army Pensions Acts to the widow in this case because the Army Pensions Board, which is the statutory authority appointed to determine such matters, found that it had not been established that the death of her husband was due solely to the wound for which he was in receipt of pension. I can request the Board to review their findings only on the ground that evidence not available prior to the issue of their report has since become available. If such evidence is forthcoming I will arrange to have the case reconsidered.
