63.

asked the Minister for Defence the total cost to date of Army units sent to the Congo.

64.

asked the Minister for Defence what outgoings, other than pay, are included in the sums refunded by the United Nations in respect of Army units serving in the Congo.

65.

asked the Minister for Defence the total sum refunded to date by the United Nations in respect of Army personnel serving in the Congo, and the amount yet due in respect of contingents sent there.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions 63, 64 and 65 together.

As stated in reply to a question by the Deputy on the 29th June, 1961, No. 14, it is not practicable to give the total cost to date of the Army units sent to the Congo.

The United Nations bears all expenditure which would not have arisen in the normal course if the troops had not been made available for service in the Congo.

The total amount refunded to date by the United Nations in respect of extra expenditure incurred is £252,515. Further claims will be submitted periodically.

Could the Minister say whether any claims have been submitted and are outstanding?

Could the Minister give the amount?

The amount is £134,000.
