Vol. 192 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abbeyfeale Industry.

46.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has any proposals for the establishment of an industry in Abbeyfeale, County Limerick; and, if so, if he will have the locality declared an undeveloped area.

There are no firm proposals before my Department or the Industrial Development Authority for the establishment of an industry in Abbeyfeale. I am aware, however, that certain private interests are considering Abbeyfeale as a possible site for an industry which they are contemplating setting up in this country.

Abbeyfeale is a "fringe area" in relation to the areas to which the Undeveloped Areas Acts at present apply. I would be prepared to consider favourably the making of an Order bringing it within the areas to which the Undeveloped Areas Acts apply, if a concrete proposal is submitted for the establishment of an industry there, and if An Foras Tionscal indicate that the project is one for which the making of a grant would be considered by them if it were located in an undeveloped area.

Would the Minister also consider Limerick city and include it in the underdeveloped area?

That is a separate question.
