I regret that I do not consider it practicable to furnish the information requested by the Deputy. It is a matter of interpretation which classes of State financial support come under the general description of subsidies and in many cases it would not be feasible to apportion the expenditure between the objects of expenditure indicated by the Deputy. It may be of some assistance to the Deputy to refer him to the particulars of State-aid to industry and agriculture which I supplied in reply to a Question from Deputy Tully on 6 December, 1961 (Dáil Debates: Vol. 192, cols. 1305 and 1306) though he should bear in mind that some of the items attributed to agriculture in that reply would also benefit industry and vice versa.
