Vol. 193 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Teaching Staffs in Mayo Schools.

116.

asked the Minister for Education what steps he proposes to take to ensure adequate teaching staffs for the national schools in the Erris Gaeltacht areas of North Mayo.

My function in the matter of providing staff for national schools is to see to it that sufficient teachers are trained each year to fill all vacant posts. This in fact is being done. As the selection and appointment of teachers rest with the school managers it is a matter for them to take steps in due time to ensure that they will secure from the pool of trained teachers being made available persons for appointment to vacancies in their schools. The position in this respect is similiar in Erris Gaeltacht Area to that in the other areas in the country.
