Vol. 193 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Double Income Tax Agreement with Belgium and France.

5.

asked the Minister for Finance whether any negotiations are pending for a reciprocal arrangement with Belgium and France for exemption from double income tax payment.

Negotiations with the authorities of France for a reciprocal convention for the avoidance of double taxation of income were begun last year. Certain progress has been made but it cannot be indicated at this stage when final agreement may be reached.

It is the intention of the Government to seek a reciprocal double taxation convention with Belgium. A preliminary informal approach in the matter has been made to the Belgian authorities; but it is not yet possible to state when negotiations proper may be expected to commence.
