Vol. 193 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Communting of Civil Service Pensions.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance the date on which provisions were introduced to enable civil servants to commute part of their pensions in favour of their widows; and the number that have so opted in each year since then.

The arrangements under which civil servants may allocate part of their pension to provide a pension for a wife or dependent relative, came into operation on 15th February, 1957.

Particulars of allocations on a year to year basis are not readily available, but the total number of allocations in favour of a wife or dependent relative made by civil servants who have already retired or will retire up to 31st March, 1962, is approximately 90, and there are five applications in hands from officers retiring in 1962-63.
