Vol. 193 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Common Market: Agricultural Sector Preparations.

26.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether his attention has been drawn to the statement made on 13th February by Mr. Rickard Deasy, president of the National Farmers' Association, that preparations to meet Common Market conditions had not advanced as far in the agricultural sector as in the industrial sector: if he has any comment to make on Mr. Deasy's statements; and if he intends to take any steps to accelerate preparations to meet Common Market conditions in the agricultural sector.

I do not agree with the statement as reported. I am satisfied that consideration of these agricultural aspects is proceeding as rapidly as possible having regard to the fact that some important decisions on agricultural policy were taken by the European Economic Community only quite recently and that in the case of some products decisions will not be taken for some months yet. Full information on the agricultural policy of the Community as it has developed so far has been given to farmers' organisations including the National Farmers' Association.
