Vol. 193 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Knockmealdown Mountains Hydro-electric Station.

49.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether any investigation has been made as to the possibility of establishing a hydro-electric power station on the Knockmealdown Mountains between Clogheen and Mount Melleray, making use of the natural facilities for such a station present in the Baylough basin; and, if so, what were the results of any such investigation.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that a preliminary examination carried out in connection with the possibility of establishing a hydro-electric station on the Knockmealdown Mountains showed that owing to the smallness of the catchment, the development of the site would not be economic.
