Vol. 193 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Inspection of County Meath Cottage.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government the date on which cottage number 8052, Deerpark, Carlanstown, Kells was inspected; if the inspection was carried out by an engineer of his Department; and what report the engineer submitted.

The cottage referred to by the Deputy was inspected by an engineering inspector of my Department on the 1st November, 1961.

Reports received from inspectors in such cases are for my information in deciding appeals and it is not the practice to disclose their contents.

Would the Minister say whether that inspector was able to see through the walls, or did he go into the cottage? Did he do all his inspection from outside?

I got the inspector's report and I have no reason to query whether or not he can see through walls. I had his report, as required, and on that basis and on other information, the decision will be reached.

Is the Minister aware that the tenant was in hospital when the inspection took place and that the key was not available, so that the inspector could not have got inside the cottage.

So the Deputy says.

Does the Minister doubt my word and accept that of the inspector?

I am not doubting the Deputy's word.
