Vol. 195 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beauparc (Meath) Kiosk and Letter Box.

23.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will consider erecting a telephone kiosk and a letter box in the village of Beauparc, County Meath.

The use likely to be made of a public kiosk at Beauparc would not be sufficient to justify its provision. A letter box will, however, be provided.

Is the Minister aware that the post office has been removed from that area and that the people are now left without a telephone?

The decision is in keeping with the practice and policy of the Department. It is considered that the kiosk would not be sufficiently used to pay for its operation.

Is the Minister aware that an area which formerly had a telephone is now being deprived of it?

I am aware of that but I am not prepared to make an exception, even for County Meath.

Even in County Meath, they are entitled to this service. Is the Minister aware that there are now two telephones in the area to which the post office has been moved and that there is none in the area from which it has been taken?

We are concerned with putting them in areas where they will pay their way. Otherwise, the cost would be thrown on the subscrivers.

The subscribers are paying enough already.

They would be paying more, if the Deputy's plans were put into operation.
