Vol. 195 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath School Needs.

29.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of County Meath (a) the number of schools which are unfit and need replacement, (b) the number which need repair, and (c) the probable date on which replacement or repair is to be carried out.

The number of national schools in County Meath which require extensive repairs or replacement by new schools is 23. Of this number new schools are recommended in 15 cases. Grants have already been sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of erecting two new schools and reconstructing six existing schools.

In two cases, work is virtually completed, and in three further cases it is expected that work will commence shortly. The remaining cases are at different preparatory stages and I cannot say when the work will be carried out.
