Vol. 195 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Schedule A Tax.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance if it is his inten ion to abolish as from the 1st April, 1963, schedule A tax on houses occupied solely by owners and used exclusively for their families.

The Government's views on the question of abolishing Schedule A tax on owner occupiers were set out in the White Paper on Direct Taxation laid before each House of the Oireachtas on 19th April, 1961. In paragraph 30 of the White Paper it was stated that, in present circumstances, the Government were not convinced that owner occupiers should be relieved of income tax where there was a liability under existing law.
