Vol. 195 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo-Leitrim Industries.

27.

asked the Miniister for Industry and Commerce if he will take special steps to have industries started in the constituency of Sligo-Leitrim in order to stop the continuous flow of emigration from towns and rural areas in the constituency.

As the Deputy is aware, the Government have provided valuable facilities and incentives to encourage the establishment and development of industries. It is for private enterprise, however, to take advantage of these facilities, and it is to be expected that local interests will do their best to encourage promoters to set up industries in their areas. I am aware of certain proposals which have; in fact, been formulated by private interests for new or expanded industrial activities in the Sligo-Leitrim area. The Deputy may take it that any sound proposals by local or other interests for the establishment of industries in the area will receive my most sympathetic consideration.
