asked the Minister for Education whether in view of his recent statements as to the desirability of increased teaching of scientific subjects in secondary schools he will take steps to ensure that in the case where, by voluntary effort, a secondary school provides new laboratory and science teaching facilities the school is not penalised by an increase in the rateable valuation of the premises.

The provisions relating to the rateable valuation of premises do not come within the province of my Department. I would, however, refer the Deputy to a reply given by the Minister for Local Government on 9th May, 1961, to a question of a similar nature by Deputy Corish.
