Vol. 195 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Defence Forces Uniforms and Footwear.

50.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he will introduce uniforms of a better cut, cloth and colour for members of the Defence Forces.

51.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he will (a) introduce a lighter and better type of boots and shoes for members of the Defence Forces, and (b) abolish the wearing of the present out-of-date type of leggings in winter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 50 and 51 together.

With regard to the question of the introduction of a new and improved type uniform for members of Na Buan Óglaigh and An Fórsa Cosanta Áititúil, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a similar Question in the House on 21 Márta, 1962, to which I have nothing to add.

The matter of introducing a new type of footwear for soldiers is being examined at present, and the question of the wearing of leggings will be studied in conjunction with any new type uniform which it may be decided to introduce.
